Research topics:

Applications of positron annihilation and Mössbauer spectroscopy in studies of condensed matter:
  • the enhancement factor of positron annihilation with d-electrons in 3d and 4d metals,
  • the density distribution of valence electrons in iron alloys,
  • voids in minerals,
  • the free volume distribution in polymers on the basis of the positron lifetime spectra,
  • the influence of chemical modifications on the positron annihilation mechanism in polymers,
  • stucture of water-organic mixtures,
  • electronic structure of hydrogenated alloys,
  • studies of ferromagnetic substances with use of polarized positrons,
  • defects in metals and alloys,

  • the phase transition of metal melting.
Equipment:
  • 3 long slit spectrometers to measure the angular correlation of annihilation quanta.
  • 3 positron lifetime spectrometers.
  • 2 spectrometers to study the Doppler broadening of the annihilation line.
  • 2 Mőssbauer spectrometers.
  • Low-pressure hydrogen synthesis apparatus.
