Biographical Information
- 1970 B.Sc. (University of Wroc³aw)
- 1972-1980 Assistant, Senior Assistant (University of Wroc³aw)
- 1980 Ph.D. (University of Wroc³aw)
- from 1980 Assistant Professor (University of Wroclaw)
Research Interests
- Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy
- Positron Annihilation in Liquids
- Coincidence Doppler Broadening Spectroscopy (CDBS)
- Positron Annihilation with Core Electrons of Atoms
- Calculation of distributions of one component of the electron momenta for some d-transition metals with use of FLAPW (Full potential Linearized Augmented Plane Wave method). Comparison of the calculated distributions with the Doppler profiles measured with use of the CDBS technique
Achievements
- Design and construction of the first positron lifetime spectrometer in Poland which began to work in the Section of Applications of Nuclear Physics at our Institute, in 1976
- Design and construction of the two-detector concidence Doppler spectrometer (the first and the only in Poland), which is used in the Section. The device allows to measure electron momenta even in case of the electrons closest to the atomic nuclei. Such electrons couldn't be studied in the past with use of the standard Doppler broadening technique (one-detector spectrometers) because of the high level of the background (peak to background ratio close to 102:1). In the two-detector spectrometer, used now in the Section, this ratio is 107 (106):1. The design of the spectrometer is unique in the world. The experimental Doppler profiles contain a lot of information, e. g. on positron-electron correlations, revealing themselves generally in the enhancement of annihilation rates of electrons with positrons.
