Research Interests
I use positrons from radioactive isotopes as well as gamma rays to study the bulk properties of solids. By measuring the positron lifetime spectra and the Mössbauer spectra of nuclear gamma resonance absorption, information is gained on the submicroscopic structure of the sample. The methods have found particular utility in the study of formation and annealing of open-volume (vacancy-like) point defects as well as distribution of admixtures in iron based solid solutions and hence the thermodynamic parameters of the materials - heat of solution for example.
